NYC Mayor Bloomberg: Government has right to ‘infringe on your freedom’

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Sunday: Sometimes government does know best. And in those cases, Americans should just cede their rights.

Mike Hammer‘s insight:

How far down the road toward socialism have we gone? This is an example of too much empowerment centralized in the wrong place.  An example not too unfamiliar to some corporate management styles making poor judgments about their workforce needs or betting the farm on the wrong information.  We should all remember the reasons for our recent financial crisis from both government and corporate mismanagement.

In most performance management structures being used in enterprises today there are no metrics for measuring corporate bungling or stupidity — until after the fact.  “The trust me, I know best what’s good for you,” is rapidly being replaced with real metrics to reduce misjudgments about future performance of workers and leaders in their development stages.  Gradually we will eliminate survey after survey stating the reason for job dissatisfaction pointing to mismanagement and poor communication skills by line managers or rising stars.

If you are a CEO of a high-profile Silicon Valley company in today’s social media environment, and you make a sudden gutsy call of informing all work from home workers to report for work at the office, there must be a really good reason to increase the expenses that decision will cause.  The on-line chatter over that decision illustrates not being able to hide decision-making behind closed doors anymore.  You can bet meeting performance metrics related the corporate business goals will make people decisions for the right reasons in the future at Yahoo.  The metrics will reveal the value of the Yahoo CEO’s judgment call.

There are no such metrics or accountability for those whom we elect.  They will tell us what we want to hear for the votes, but few are every held to those promises, thanks to a partisan, left leaning mass media which used to be impartial and challenged political elites for the facts.

NYC has a high percentage of freelance and contract workers. These are folks, some of whom left the safety net of employment in corporate America, who love their freedom to choose for whom and when they work.  If I were one of them, I would begin to wonder when will the next decision infringe upon my right to choose — not whomever is the current Mayor.

Question: Like other recent examples, the underlying statement here is “Of whom do you speak IS ‘Government’, Mr. Mayor?”  Is it the majority vote of the NYC Counsel?  Is it someone with a good set of statistics you can use to base your case upon? Is it the memo written by the assistant to the assistant health inspector for the 3rd ward? Is it the xx% of far left loud voices screaming for you to do something? Or is it just you, Mr. Mayor, playing God!

In case you haven’t noticed, Mr. Mayor, the majority of Americans are just about fed up with the erosion of individual rights forced on them, like Obama care, against their will. If you keep it up, you might see a national boycott of visiting your fair city. I, like many Americans love to visit NYC, but we are tired of infringements on individual rights forced upon us with a dictatorship like approach – my way or the highway, like it or lump it, we know what’s best for you.

Here’s a tip. This is not the former Soviet Union.  Many of your city’s hard-working citizens came to America to escape those dictators and their edicts. An often used statement to make a point, as does, Dr. Ben Carson from Johns Hopkins Hospital — it’s God given.  Like what is happening in California, people can freely choose NOT to work there, do business there, or visit there anymore.  That’s economic freedom not to be infringed upon or held hostage by.

From My view:

For those with whom I have held your reading attention to this point and who recognize we are spending $3 billion a day for interest on our now $17 trillion national debt, don’t you think we have had enough of “take it for granted” infringement on our Constitutional rights, or do we really want our “free stuff” enough to be like Greece or Cyprus?????  We know every Federal department has overpaid staff, hidden “slush funds” and billions in vacant or underutilized facilities. Yet our children can’t visit the White House and felons are being released on a the basis of sequester cuts. Where in the world are our priorities? Think about it!
